santa-sleigh-moon-paint-by-numbers
Santa's Sleigh and the Moon Paint by Numbers Kit

Santa's sleigh and four reindeer fly across an enormous golden moon on Christmas Eve, dark against its glow. Below, a snowy village sleeps under the rooftops, a few windows still lit, a church spire rising between the pines. It is the moment every child waits up for, painted big enough to hang on the wall every December.

Where the work is

The moon is the most satisfying part: one huge circle broken into soft patches of cream, gold and pale ochre, with a blue halo round it. The sleigh and reindeer are crisp dark silhouettes, so they are quick to fill but need a careful edge. The swirling clouds and the village at the bottom are where the smaller sections sit, with snow on every roof, little lit windows and rows of pine trees.

Time and colours

Intermediate. At 40x50cm, plan on 16 to 22 hours. We would choose 36 colours, which gives the moon a smoother glow and more depth to the night sky.

Picking a size

A wide scene with the moon in the middle. 40x50cm is the smallest we would suggest so the reindeer antlers and village windows stay comfortable to paint. At 50x60cm it is a real centrepiece for a child's room or a living room in December.

Painting the scene well

Paint the moon first, then the sky and clouds around it, then the sleigh and reindeer on top, and finish with the village from back to front. Let the moon dry fully before you paint the silhouettes across it, so the dark edges stay sharp.
