What makes a good photo
A numbered canvas is your photograph reduced to flat areas of colour, so the picture that converts best is the one with clear shapes and clear light.
- Good light. Daylight near a window beats flash every time.
- Sharp focus on the main subject, especially the eyes.
- Fill the frame. The subject should take up a decent share of the picture.
- Simple background. Busy backgrounds turn into visual noise.
- Avoid heavy portrait-mode blur, which can cut off edges and fine detail.

Which detail level should you choose?
More colours means finer shading and a longer paint. Fewer colours means bigger, simpler sections.

No Frame
The canvas arrives rolled. The most economical option, and the easiest to post if you are sending it as a gift. Stretch or frame it yourself when it is finished.
DIY Frame
Comes with wooden stretcher bars you assemble at home. No tools needed. You paint on a taut canvas and it is ready to hang the moment you finish.
Pre-Framed
Arrives already stretched over its frame. Nothing to build, nothing to work out. The simplest choice if the kit is a present.
Your numbered canvas
Linen-blend, pre-printed with your design, in the size and format you chose.
Pre-mixed acrylic paints
Matched to your photograph. 24, 36 or 48 pots depending on the detail level.

Questions about personalised kits
After you check out, Paint A Moment emails you a secure upload link. You click it and upload your image directly. There is no upload box on the product page itself, so do not worry if you cannot find one before paying.
Aim for a file over 1MB and use the original rather than a screenshot or a version saved from a messaging app. Photos taken on any phone from the last five years are usually fine. Avoid images that have been cropped down heavily or compressed by social media.
Yes. We send a preview of the numbered design once we have processed your photo. You can request changes free of charge, and nothing goes to print until you approve it.
Production takes 3 to 5 working days after your photo is approved. Delivery is then 5-7 working days to the UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe, or 10-14 working days to other destinations. Shipping is free worldwide.
A 40x50cm Standard custom kit takes most people 10-15 hours. Extra-Detailed takes 15-25 hours and Premium 25-40 hours at that size. Most painters spread this over several evenings rather than doing it in one sitting.
Yes, but choose a larger canvas and a higher detail tier. On a small canvas each face becomes too small to hold recognisable detail. For two or more people we suggest 40x50cm or bigger with Extra-Detailed or Premium.
No. Each region on the canvas is numbered and each paint pot carries the matching number, so the skill involved is patience rather than technique. Our beginner's guide covers brush handling and paint consistency if you want to read up first.
Acrylic paint covers itself well. Let the wrong colour dry fully, then paint the correct number straight over the top. The linen-blend canvas handles several layers without any problem.
Every kit, custom kits included, is covered by our 30-day happiness guarantee. If anything arrives damaged or you are not happy with your kit, contact us within 30 days and we will replace it. If the replacement still does not put it right, we will refund you. We send a free preview of every custom design before printing, so you can approve the artwork first.
